Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has praised the Chelsea trio of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The three academy graduates who grew up playing together for Chelsea at different levels finally started for the first team against Southampton on Sunday and wrecked havoc at St.Mary’s stadium.

Chelsea ended up scoring four goals on the night as the Blues made their way back to the top half of the table and one spot off the top four.

Tammy and Mount both got on the score sheet while Hudson-Odoi racked up yet another assist as Chelsea once again had 5 players from the academy by the end of the match.

“They’re not bad at all, three very exciting players,” Shearer said on Match of the Day 2 after Chelsea had beaten Southampton by a scoreline of 4 goals to 1. ”The energy they have, the link-up play, and the understanding they have.

“They ran riot all afternoon, and they weren’t far away from each other. They were a threat, those three, all afternoon.

“Abraham and Mount in the full England squad, Hudson-Odoi back from injury and in the England u21 team, it’s looking very good for them.”
