Porto striker Samu Omorodion has shed light on his near-transfer to Chelsea, revealing just how close he came to joining the Premier League giants during the summer.
“I Was Close to Signing” – Omorodion Speaks on Collapsed Chelsea Move
The 20-year-old Spaniard, who caught the attention of several top clubs during his loan spell at Deportivo Alaves while still with Atletico Madrid, ultimately chose a different path, moving to Porto instead.
Speaking in a candid interview with Spanish outlet RTVE, Omorodion acknowledged that the Chelsea move was on the brink of being finalized.
“Everyone knows I was close to signing for Chelsea,” he admitted, reflecting on the uncertainty of his summer.
He also mentioned how faith played a role in his decision, adding, “It didn’t happen because God didn’t want it.”
While the collapse of the Chelsea deal could have been disheartening, Omorodion expressed gratitude for the opportunity Porto provided when his future was unclear.
“I’m very happy with where I am now,” he said, emphasizing how Porto gave him a fresh start.
Omorodion has already made an impression in Portugal, including a standout performance in a Europa League match against Manchester United.
His strong form since joining Porto raises the question of whether Chelsea might revisit their interest in the promising striker in the future.
Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Omorodion remains focused on his current club.
“I’ve left the past behind and now I’m focused on what’s ahead,” he concluded, hinting that his journey is just beginning.
For now, Omorodion’s focus is on developing his talents at Porto, but it’s clear the Premier League dream is still very much alive for the young star.
