In Sunday’s 1-1 draw between Chelsea and Arsenal, it was clear who should have been crowned Player of the Match. After Moises Caicedo was sent off in the first half, Chelsea captain Reece James emerged as the team’s best performer.
Enzo Maresca may not disagree with Caicedo’s ejection, but he will believe that his team should have prevailed because they were the superior team in 11v11 and took the lead early in the second half. The Blues performed admirably even with 10 men, but their 1-0 advantage was short-lived (11 minutes).
Although both parties will be disappointed by the draw, they will also acknowledge that it is a fair outcome. James was excellent in a less natural defensive-midfield role and didn’t deserve to be on the losing team. He helped Trevoh Chalobah score.
Daniel Sturridge, a former Chelsea striker, called him an “absolute beast” when he faced Mikel Arteta’s team. Sturridge told Sky Sports, “We’re talking about a player who’s been in a first-team environment now for many years and has become a senior player for this group.”
James says 10-man Chelsea could have won against Arsenal
The greatest player on the pitch was Chelsea captain Reece James, who took over when Moises Caicedo was sent off in the first half. When questioned about his midfield position, he responded, “I try to help the team as best I can.” “We had a lot more balls; we were gathering second balls and shuttling them back and forth. As a team, I think we did a pretty fantastic job.
James expressed his admiration for Chelsea’s ability to withstand pressure and mount a comeback. “We controlled every aspect of the game from start to finish. That, in my opinion, made a significant statement about our current situation and the goals we are pursuing,” James remarked.
“It requires playing regularly and at a good level every single week. I haven’t done that in a very long time. It’s nice to be on the pitch and I’m on a good streak right now.” With 24 points, Chelsea is six points behind Arsenal in third place in the Premier League standings. On Wednesday, they will travel to play Leeds United.
