According to Fabrizio Romano, Napoli plans to contact Raheem Sterling’s agents to enquire about the possibility of a trade. Despite knowing he had no future at Stamford Bridge, Sterling was unable to clinch a trade out last summer despite reports that clubs were keen.
He has remained a member of the bomb squad since returning from a dismal loan stint at Arsenal last season, despite reports that up to five teams had shown interest.
Sterling has stated that he is not interested in moving to the MLS or Saudi Arabia, and it is thought that he would want to stay in London, making an exit more challenging. Sterling is only interested in leaving permanently, despite reports that West Ham has made a move for him.
Napoli is debating whether to pursue Sterling. Romano has now given an update on Napoli’s interest in Sterling, who is reportedly interested in joining Fulham but has not yet made a bid.
Sterling open to Serie A move
Contrary to the player’s wage, Sterling’s transfer cost would not be a problem for Napoli because he is no longer part of Chelsea’s plans.
According to Fabrizio Romano on YouTube, the 31-year-old would have to accept a wage decrease in order to go to the Stadio Maradona, but the Chelsea star is drawn to the chance to play overseas. According to reports, Sterling has had bids from West Ham and Fulham, but his top goal is to try something different overseas, and Napoli is aware of this possibility.
However, the reigning Serie A winners won’t make a decision on Sterling anytime soon since they need to evaluate their financial situation.
Similar to the January 2025 Noah Okafor trade, Napoli saw Sterling as a possible late opportunity in the closing days of the transfer window.
