Raheem Sterling was deployed in a wing-back role against RB Salzburg.

The new Chelsea manager started his tenure with a draw against German side RB Salzburg on Wednesday night.

The match ended 1-1 with Salzburg equalising late in the game at the Stamford Bridge.

Potter used Raheem Sterling in an unfamiliar role which is usually occupied by Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella.

He was deployed in the left wing-back role and eventually scored the only Chelsea goal that night.

Later that night, the former Manchester City and Liverpool winger was asked about his new role under manager Graham Potter.

Sterling told BT Sport: “I played in a slightly different role here under the manager and it was one that I enjoyed, playing out wide here, and over time it’ll get better.”

“He wanted me out wide getting at the full-back, getting in the box, creating chances. Like I said, the more time under him, I think it’ll get better for us,” he added.
