Rafael Leao chose to stay with AC Milan against offers from Chelsea and Real Madrid.

With Leao’s current contract set to expire in 2024, leading clubs in Europe are keeping an eye on his status at Milan. Leao’s future has been unknown.

Leao has established himself as one of the best players in Serie A during the previous two seasons. He was voted Serie A Footballer of the Year in 2021–22 as Milan won the Scudetto, and this season he shone throughout the Rossoneri’s journey to the Champions League semifinals.

Stefano Pioli’s team advanced to the semifinals thanks to the 23-year-old’s outstanding solo assist for Olivier Giroud’s goal in Milan’s quarterfinal victory over Napoli. Both Chelsea and Real Madrid have reportedly made bids to sign the Portugal international, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, but Leao is expected to reject foreign interest in favour of committing to a new contract at the San Siro.

Although there is still a disagreement with the forward’s former team, Sporting Lisbon, it is not anticipated that Leao’s salary demands would come up during negotiations for a new contract. In 2018, Leao unilaterally ended his contract with Sporting, claiming that a training field invasion by incensed fans constituted a contract violation.

It is still unknown whether Milan has changed its stance in an effort to get Leao to sign a new contract because the club has so far refused to contribute to that fee.
