Christian Pulisic made his Chelsea debut in a defeat to Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale.

The American joined the club early in pre-season. He was with the national team and joined Chelsea soon after without taking any rest. He played in the defeat to Kawasaki and after Chelsea’s defeat he admitted that it had been a tough start but is looking forward to getting ready for the season.

‘Yeah I’m really happy to be here with the team and get in an actual match for the first time it feels really good,’ he said following his debut. ‘They were a very good opponent, you saw they tested us for 90 minutes and scored a good goal in the end.

It was a tough one but that’s why we’re out here getting ready for the season. ‘We want to try to progress in every game and try to get more match fit and 90 minute ready so that helped us out today.

‘It’s been tough getting into the things, I’m feeling really good. It’s great to work with the coach and all these guys. It’s tested me but it’s great so far. ‘It’s been great I grew up watching him [Frank] and to have him here giving me pointers and helping the team.

It’s awesome to have him around and nice to have a guy we can really relate to. ‘It’ll be another great game [against Barcelona] and will get us more ready for the start of the season.’
