Chelsea forward Pedro has said that it is difficult for his teammates to adapt to Maurizio Sarri’s playing style.
Chelsea began this season well under Maurizio Sarri. However, they have struggled lately. Chelsea have conceded 10 goals in their last two Premier League away games. Last weekend, Chelsea faced a 6-0 humiliation against Manchester City and fell to 6th in the Premier League table.
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri’s footballing philosophy has been a subject of gossip for a while now. Earlier during the season, many of Chelsea’s players praised Sarri’s playing style but now, many are criticising Sarri.
Pedro has said that while his team can play according to Sarri’s style, it is difficult sometimes. The Spaniard said, “All the team follows the idea of Maurizio: press really high, stay compact, and to create chances. With good possession, a lot of the ball. We can do this as a team. But sometimes it’s so difficult to play in this way. It depends upon the opponents. City played very well, so it was so difficult to press, to create between the lines and to defend.
But it’s Maurizio’s idea, and I prefer to press high when we recover the ball to create chances, not to wait for 90 minutes to recover the ball and run 60 metres to score the goal. In the last few games it’s not been in very good condition for the results. Now is a good opportunity tomorrow to win and get our best confidence.”
Chelsea play Malmö FF tonight at Malmo. They will hope to get back to winning ways as well as register their first away win against a Swedish club.
