Chelsea have come up with a surprise link for a move for Thomas Partey.
The Atletico Madrid midfielder has been on the verge of an exit from the Spanish club all summer with Arsenal being his most active suitor.
However, Arsenal as it would seem has failed to come up with the transfer money for his move and will have to stay out of the way for Partey.
This does not mean that Partey is not coming to London, if reports are to be believed. Chelsea have been chasing a deal for Declan Rice all summer but with the Hammers setting a lofty price tag on him, Chelsea reportedly have switched their target.
The man they want now is Thomas Partey. He would add some much needed steel with movement in central defensive midfield for the Blues.
At the moment, Chelsea has N’Golo Kante Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho besides the injured Billy Gilmour to play as a defensive midfielder. While Kovacic and Jorginho are easy on the ball, neither are good defensively and the opposite holds true for Kante.
If the Blues manage to sign Partey, they will have a midfielder who can do both. Let’s see how the next few hours span out.
