Chelsea has officially signed Brazilian center-back Thiago Silva.
The 35-year-old defender recently terminated his contract with PSG after 8 wonderful years in Paris and became a free agent last week. Chelsea have now announced that they have signed Silva, nicknamed ‘The Monster’, on a two-year deal.
The player is reportedly on a £120,000 per week salary with an initial 12-month contract and the option to extend it by another 12. The addition of Silva will provide some much-needed experience and solidarity at the back for the Blues who conceded 54 goals in the league in the recently concluded season.
Chelsea has the likes of Fikayo Tomori and Andreas Christensen but lacked a leader at the back, which Silva is expected to be.
Thiago Silva said: ‘I am so happy to be joining Chelsea. I am delighted to be a part of Frank Lampard’s exciting squad for next season and I’m here to challenge for honors. See you soon Chelsea fans, I look forward to playing at Stamford Bridge very soon.’
The addition of Silva means that Chelsea has signed their fifth player of the summer – after securing the transfers of Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, and Malang Sarr. If reports are to be believed, Chelsea is still strongly in the pursuit of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen and will also add a goalkeeper before the market shuts!
