Chelsea beat Manchester City to sign Cucurella from Brighton.

The Spaniard had an excellent season with Brighton last year that saw him win the Players’ Player of the Season.

The Blues will pay £55 million for his services with £8 million in add-ons.

Even Manchester City wanted to sign the former Getafe defender but they didn’t agree to the £50 million valuation of the player.

He is expected to slot into the left-back role seamlessly but will definitely face stiff competition from Ben Chilwell.

Marcos Alonso is also another candidate but the Spaniard is being touted for a move to Camp Nou this summer.

Thomas Tuchel said: “Marc is a fantastic player, a young player. He is young, hungry, mobile and a very intelligent player who can play a lot of positions in our system.”

On signing for Chelsea, Cucurella said: “I’m really happy. It’s a big opportunity for me to join one of the best clubs in the world and I’m going to work hard to be happy here and help the team.”

The Blues are also working on a deal for Leicester defender Wesley Fofana.
