Manchester City have officially completed the signing of Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández from Chelsea in a blockbuster deadline-day deal worth £125 million.

The 25-year-old World Cup winner has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, committing his future to the club until the summer of 2031.
The fee equals the British transfer record, matching the £125 million Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak last year.
Remarkably, Fernández now holds the distinction of being the first player to be sold for more than £100 million twice in his career, having originally joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for a then-record £107 million.

“I couldn’t be happier to be here, and I am ready for the challenge of helping City continue to win titles,” Fernández told Manchester City’s official website.
“This is a club built for success. Every player wants to be part of a club like this because everyone knows how well-run City are.”
The move reunites Fernández with his former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, who left Stamford Bridge in January to take over at Manchester City following Pep Guardiola’s departure.
City’s Director of Football Hugo Viana praised the midfielder’s pedigree: “He is a complete midfielder: technically gifted, hardworking, tenacious and a goalscorer.
To have played in two World Cup finals and won major trophies in multiple countries at just 25 says everything you need to know about his mentality.”
Fernández leaves Chelsea after three and a half years with 170 appearances and 31 goals to his name. He helped the Blues lift the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup last summer.
In an emotional farewell message to Chelsea supporters, the Argentine wrote: “Three years ago, Cobham and Stamford Bridge became home for me and my family. I grew attached to the people, to the shirt, and to the badge of this incredible club.”
The deal was announced approximately 30 minutes after the summer transfer window closed at 23:00 BST, capping a dramatic deadline day for the Premier League champions.
