Tiemoue Bakayoko secured a return to Monaco on a season-long loan from Chelsea on Saturday after a miserable two seasons since originally leaving the principality.

Bakayoko signed for the London club from the Ligue 1 side for a reported €45 million in 2017. He went on to make 43 appearances that season but spent last year on loan at AC Milan.

He then returned to Stamford Bridge at the end of the campaign, despite the Italian giants having the option to sign the midfielder permanently.

Despite having penned a five-year deal at Chelsea, now, in another spell away from England, he will join his old club Monaco for the rest of the season on loan and will reunite with former team-mate Cesc Fabregas, the French side have confirmed.

“AS Monaco is pleased to announce the arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko (25 years old) from Chelsea. The midfielder arrives on loan for a season, with an option to buy”, they announced via their official website.

The Paris-born international, who he has one cap for France, was part of the Monaco squad which won the French title in 2016-17.

“I am very happy to come back to Monaco, a club with which I keep fantastic memories,” said the 25-year-old. “Since 2017, I had the opportunity to have two very good experiences with Chelsea and AC Milan.

“I hope to be able to integrate as quickly as possible in this collective, in an environment that I already know, and especially with the desire to bring to the group what I know how to make a good season.

After narrowly avoiding relegation to Ligue 2 last season, Monaco have embarked on an ambitious summer recruitment drive with Bakayoko becoming their ninth signing of the window.
