Chelsea have officially announced the signing of striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, marking their first acquisition of the summer transfer window.
Official: Liam Delap Signs Six-Year Deal with Chelsea
The 22-year-old forward has penned a six-year contract, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2031.
The deal, reportedly worth £30 million, was facilitated by a release clause activated following Ipswich’s relegation from the Premier League.

Delap arrives in West London after an impressive 2024/25 season, where he emerged as Ipswich’s top scorer with 12 goals and two assists in 37 appearances.
His performances earned him a nomination for the Premier League Young Player of the Year award.
“I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it is on with these players and the head coach,” Delap expressed on Chelsea’s official website.
“It’s going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies.”
The move reunites Delap with Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, under whom he previously worked at Manchester City’s academy.
Maresca has been instrumental in Chelsea’s recent squad overhaul, aiming to build a youthful and dynamic team.
Delap’s journey began at Derby County’s academy before he joined Manchester City in 2019. He made his senior debut for City in 2020, scoring in an EFL Cup match against Bournemouth.
Subsequent loan spells at Stoke City, Preston North End, and Hull City provided him with valuable first-team experience.
In July 2024, he signed with newly promoted Ipswich Town, where he quickly became a key player.
Internationally, Delap has represented England at various youth levels, including the Under-21s, where he has scored three goals in 12 appearances.
At Chelsea, Delap will compete with forwards like Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, and Armando Broja.
His addition is expected to bolster the attacking options as the Blues prepare for the upcoming season, which includes a return to the UEFA Champions League and participation in the Club World Cup.
Delap’s arrival signifies Chelsea’s commitment to investing in young talent and building a squad capable of competing at the highest level.
Fans will be eager to see how the promising striker integrates into Maresca’s system and contributes to the club’s ambitions.
