OFFICIAL: Chelsea announce signing of Jadon Sancho on season-long loan deal

Sancho will now spend this season at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho on a season-long loan deal. The West London club were heavily linked with a move for the Englishman.

This major signing came in the final hours of the window. Despite having put forward a Premier League registration request before the 11 pm deadline on Friday, an official announcement about a signing did not follow.

The update came next day evening with Sancho pictured in a Chelsea shirt. Chelsea also confirmed that they had an obligation to buy the player next summer.

Sancho had a roller-coaster ride in 2023-24. After having a dispute with Erik ten Hag, he was dropped from the Man United squad. In the winter transfer window, he was loaned out to his former club, Borussia Dortmund.

He again came back to Man United but was left out of the first two Premier League games. Sancho will now spend this season at Stamford Bridge.

While talking to the club’s official website: “They’re signing me for a reason and to contribute to the team, and I’m ready to do that.

“I enjoy his style of play. The wingers when they get on the ball, he loves them to go one versus one and be direct. We play a lot of one-twos with the 10s and the striker combination plays. It’s very attractive and it’s a style that I play.”

He added: “He spoke to me on the phone about this project and what he was building here, and for a young player like myself it’s exciting and I can’t wait to get started.”
