Newcastle United have joined in on the race for Chelsea winger, Willian.
Other London clubs like Tottenham and Arsenal were already gunning for the soon-to-be free-agent who has served Chelsea diligently for the last 7 years.
The Magpies are about to receive a gigantic infusion of cash through their new billionaire owners from the Middle East. That means more star signings, starting with big names such as Willian. The Brazilian has been an outstanding performer for Chelsea ever since his arrival in 2013 from Anzhi Makhachkala.
He has earned 63 caps for his country and has been a regular throughout his Premier League career. At 31, he still has the athleticism and technical abilities to play in the English top-flight. Newcastle United could use an experienced head like him to jumpstart their ambitions for the upcoming seasons. He would also be a great example to some of the younger players in the dressing room, bringing around a winning mentality.
Willian has won the Premier League twice with Chelsea along with an FA Cup, a League Cup and the Europa League. He is an astute dribbler who can play on either flank and even as an attacking midfielder. Frank Lampard would ideally have liked to keep him for a season or two but Chelsea could convince him into staying. Willian demanded a contract of three years but the Blues were only willing to hand him two.
