As the January transfer season continues, Newcastle is considering a number of attacking possibilities, with Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech being one of them
Ziyech is one of many Chelsea players who have been given permission to transfer during this window. The 29-year-old was hoping to leave Chelsea last summer, but since clubs like Ajax and AC Milan were unable to reach an agreement, he is now trying to move this month.
Ziyech is eager to play regular first-team football after a successful World Cup with semifinalists Morocco, but he is aware that it will probably only be achievable away from Stamford Bridge.
Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, said that he closely observed Ziyech in Qatar and was impressed, but that he is unable to guarantee the youngster the regular opportunity he seeks. Newcastle is one of the clubs that has expressed interest in Ziyech after being contacted by Ziyech’s representation.
Ziyech is someone who Chelsea would prefer to sell. With more than two years remaining on his present contract, a loan appears to be the most likely course of action, and Newcastle may be interested in taking that route. Going into the second half of the season, Newcastle and Eddie Howe would like to add a midfielder and a right defender. But at this point, it appears doubtful that they would make a significant January purchase due to worries over Financial Fair Player. However, 90min understands that the club would execute the deal if the correct one presented itself.
Along with Ziyech, other Chelsea players such as Connor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have also been linked to Newcastle, but it is unclear if either would be available this month.
