Barcelona has set a £70 million asking price for Brazilian winger Raphinha, who has drawn interest from Chelsea and Newcastle United

The 26-year-old transferred from Leeds United to the Catalan club last summer for an estimated fee of €58 million. Raphinha has made 31 appearances this season and has seven LaLiga goals and six assists.

As the Magpies get ready to compete in four competitions next season, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe will be eager to bolster his team. With a game remaining, Howe’s team is presently third in the Premier League, three points ahead of Liverpool in fifth position.

After one of their poorest Premier League campaigns in club history, Chelsea is expected to miss out on playing in Europe next season as they remain mired in the middle of the pack.

In the Premier League era, the Blues’ lowest point total was 50 in the 2015–16 season, when they came in 10th place. Chelsea is now in 11th place with four games remaining and 42 points.

Remember that last year, the Brazilian international declined Chelsea’s offer to extend his Premier League contract in lieu of realising his ambition of playing for Barcelona? That might put a wrench in the plans because the left-footed forward might not be persuaded to break his links with the Catalan powerhouse even with a lot of cash.
