Marc Guiu denies Money motivated Chelsea move
New Chelsea signing Marc Guiu has firmly denied that his move from Barcelona was driven by financial incentives.
The 18-year-old striker, who made the switch to Stamford Bridge after Chelsea activated his £5m release clause, emphasized that his decision was rooted in ambition and opportunity rather than money.
During Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the USA, Guiu has already shown glimpses of his potential, clocking over 200 minutes and contributing a goal and an assist.
However, his departure from Barcelona, where he rejected a new contract offer, has led to speculation that financial factors were at play.
Guiu addressed these rumors head-on, stating, “It was not an issue with my contract. I’ve always dreamt of playing in the Premier League and Chelsea is a great club with a lot of history. It was a tough decision but it was an amazing opportunity, so I had to go for it.”
His words reflect a young player eager to make his mark in one of the world’s most competitive leagues. Despite limited senior appearances for Barcelona last season, Guiu demonstrated his talent by scoring in both La Liga and the Champions League.
He also boasts an impressive record with Spain’s youth teams, netting nine goals in 16 appearances.
When asked about his readiness to compete in the Premier League, Guiu remained focused. “I’m just focused on the pre-season tour, doing my best and that’s what I can say,” he noted.
“Chelsea’s coach Enzo Maresca told me there was an amazing sporting project full of young talent, that he wanted me to be a part of it and that he had a lot of faith in me and my skills and capabilities.”
With determination and hard work, Guiu is set to become a valuable asset for Chelsea as they look to blend youthful energy with seasoned experience in their quest for success.
