Maurizio Sarri Confirms Gonzalo Higuain Signing

Maurizio Sarri has confirmed Chelsea are very close to complete a move for Gonzalo Higuain.

The Argentine international has reached London and is slated to undergo a medical before signing on the dotted line. A short term deal until the end of the season has been agreed with AC Milan and the Blues will also have the option to extend the tenure of the contract.

Sarri was very keen to strengthen his forward line as both Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud have failed to create an impact this season. The Italian has been forced to use Eden Hazard in the false nine role but it hasn’t been of much help.

Higuain knows the pros and cons of Sarri’s tactics and would take very little time in adjusting to the different nature of the Premier League.

Sarri explains Higuain’s role. “Higuain is a few hours away from signing his contract at Chelsea.

“We are hoping he will start scoring straightaway for us but there is more to his game than goals. He is a very strong striker and was especially strong during my first season in Naples, he did very well and scored 36 goals in 35 games in Serie A, and 39 in total. For sure he is one of the best strikers in my career, he has the right experience to play here.

“He wants to win all the time, in any situation. As far as failure is concerned, I wouldn’t call it that, he still scored nine goals (at AC Milan) and he found himself in a team which is not at the same level as Juventus.”
