Mauricio Pochettino reveals transfer plans for Chelsea squad
Mauricio Pochettino has provided a glimpse into Chelsea’s transfer plans for the upcoming summer. Following a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth in their final Premier League game, Pochettino discussed his vision for the squad.
Chelsea finished sixth, securing a place in European competition next season, pending the FA Cup final outcome.
Reflecting on the season, Pochettino emphasized continuity, indicating he plans to retain “80-85%” of the current squad.
“Always, you can improve,” Pochettino told reporters on Sunday.
“They are going to be much better next season because they will have one year of experience, a tough experience. That is the advantage of being solid and consistent and not making too many changes.
“Next season if we keep 80-85% of the squad, for sure, it is a big step forward because it is about having continuity in the ideas and the knowledge between them. That is important for the club.”
When asked if he envisaged more transfers being made, Pochettino was coy with what he expects to happen this summer.
“That is a club decision,” said the Chelsea boss. “Like it was from the beginning, we are going to be there to help and if not, we are going to do our job.”
This suggests he seeks only a few strategic additions. “We need to maintain the core of this team,” Pochettino remarked, emphasizing stability and cohesion for future success.
With Chelsea aiming for either the Europa League or Europa Conference League, the Argentine manager’s transfer strategy appears focused on refinement rather than overhaul. This approach marks a shift from recent summers of heavy spending.
The Blues’ potential participation in the Europa League, contingent on Manchester City’s FA Cup victory, would influence the caliber of players targeted.
The summer promises to be crucial for Chelsea as Pochettino looks to build on the foundations laid this season. By prioritizing squad stability and targeted reinforcements, he aims to propel Chelsea back to the top of English football.
Fans can expect a blend of familiar faces and new talents as Pochettino shapes his team for the challenges ahead.
