Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella has opened the door to a potential return to Barcelona, admitting he would find it hard to reject the Catalan giants if they came calling.

“It Would Be Difficult to Refuse”: Cucurella Opens Door to Barcelona Return

The Spain international, who came through La Masia as a youngster, spoke to Marca ahead of Spain’s friendly against Egypt.

When asked about a possible move to his boyhood club, Cucurella did not hide his feelings.

“It would be difficult to refuse,” he said.

“It’s not just about me. I’d have to think about my family. If it happens, it happens, and we’ll see what decision is made.”

Cucurella left Barcelona’s academy seeking regular playing time, with Jordi Alba firmly established as the first-choice left-back at the time.

After a loan at Eibar and a permanent move to Getafe, Brighton signed the defender before Chelsea paid €65m to bring him to Stamford Bridge in 2022.

The 25-year-old has since become a regular for Luis de la Fuente’s Spain side. He also admitted that he thinks about returning to La Liga eventually.

“You always think about going back,” Cucurella added.

“I’m very happy there, and so is my family. I’ll leave it for a few years from now…”

Playing in Catalonia again for Spain’s clash at the RCDE Stadium clearly excites him.

“Very happy. I’ve had a lot of requests for tickets. We’ll be playing in a great stadium and it’s a wonderful atmosphere,” he said.

However, a summer move to Barcelona looks unlikely. Reports suggest the club would listen to offers for Alejandro Balde, but Cucurella does not feature on their shortlist of alternatives.

With a contract at Chelsea running until 2028 and left-back not a priority for Barcelona, the Spanish side may struggle to afford him this window. For now, Cucurella’s return remains a dream for another day.
