Gary Neville predicts Maurizio Sarri will be sacked by the end of this season

Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes the writing is on the wall for Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri, and that the Italian is likely to be sacked by the end of this season.

The ex Napoli boss made an encouraging start to his life at Stamford Bridge, but since the start of festive period, the Blues have struggled.

Gutless performances at Tottenham and Arsenal were noted in bold letters. While a pounding at Bournemouth had the biggest negative effect. In between, a loss at home to Leicester didn’t help the cause.

Sarri has questioned the mentality of his players on several occasions this season, leading to suggestions whether the players are actually in sync with the manager’s philosophy or not.

Speaking on his podcast, Gary Neville said: “It’s mystifying with Sarri, after his comments about struggling to motivate the players I thought this isn’t going to go well.

“I said a few weeks ago that I thought it was the beginning of the end after what we had seen at Chelsea, the win [over Huddersfield] doesn’t change my mind.

“I don’t think Chelsea will change Sarri during the season but there are those warning signs that make you think it will be a surprise if it goes beyond the summer.

“That’s not because I want him to leave, I think he’s doing a good job, but Sarri probably realises the job he is in and looks at the players who are not doing what he wants them to do – they never probably will.”

Chelsea have a big game this weekend against Manchester City at the Etihad, as the race for a top-four finish hots up.
