Manchester City step in to hijack Chelsea's deal for Martinez

Chelsea were reportedly inching closer to a deal for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

However, the deal could not well face much stronger difficulties. It was being believed that Chelsea had shrugged off the chase of Barcelona for the same player to a great extent.

They were believed to be in the driving seat for the player’s signature this summer.  The Blues had a tough season staying out of the transfer market – partially due to the transfer ban and partially cause Chelsea did not find the right player at the right price in the January market.

However, with summer coming the condition at Chelsea is dire in terms of forwards. Giroud’s deal is set to run down with Batshuayi not up to the mark. This means young Tammy Abraham needs a dependable partner up front and Lautaro Martinez, after his fiery season at Inter Milan has been recognized as a prime target.

However, a new competitor has come up for the signature of the player – Manchester City. The Citizens are willing to let Sergio Aguero leave at the end of this season and have targeted Martinez as a possible replacement. This means City are serious about his signature if they want to replace him with their record scorer and hence will go in hard for him.

It might lead to financial complications for Chelsea as a bidding war would inflate the player’s price and Chelsea will not be able to compete with City’s deep oil filled pockets!
