Chelsea have confirmed that Lucas Piazon has joined Portuguese side Rio Ave on loan after signing a one-year contract extension with the club.
The Brazilian attacker spent the second half of last season on loan at Chievo in Italy, where he made 4 appearances. He was also an unused substitute in the Blues’ semi-final second leg clash against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.
The 25-year-old joined Chelsea in 2011 and had an impressive season with the reserve team, winning the FA Youth Cup and being named Chelsea Young Player of the Year.
He broke into the first team in 2012/13 and subsequently joined Malaga in his first loan spell as a Chelsea player. Further, he had stints at Vitesse Arnhem, Eintracht Frankfurt, Reading and Fulham.
Piazon has also represented Brazil at youth level. Rio Ave are managed by former Sheffield United coach Carlos Carvalhal. They have embarked on the new season in an impressive manner with two wins out of three league games.
