Jamie Carragher believes Maurizio Sarri is turning Chelsea into Arsenal
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says Maurizio Sarri is turning this Chelsea team into Arsenal after the Blues’ hammering 6-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City at the Etihad stadium.
Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick, while Raheem Sterling scored a brace and Ilkay Gundogan was on the score-sheet as Pep Guardiola’s men were rampant from minute one.
Most of the damage was done in the opening 25 minutes, when City scored four to completely take the wind out of Chelsea sails.
That was defeat was the Blues’ worst in the Premier League era and manager admitted that his position could be in question in the next few days.
Following the first half of that game, Carragher was at the Sky Sports studio. He said:Â “City have been outstanding, but this has been as bad as anything from Chelsea this season.
“It’s only halfway through Sarri’s first season but the worst thing I can say is it looks like he has turned Chelsea into Arsenal.
“The Arsenal team that has got battered away from home in the last seven or eight years because they have been too weak.
“You couldn’t say that about Chelsea in the past, but this looks like a weak team.
“The first goal is criminal from [Marcos] Alonso. It’s so casual three or four minutes into a big game. He was not switched on at all.”
Next up for Chelsea is a tricky Europa League last-32 first leg away at Malmo on Thursday. It remains to be seen how does the team respond after a no-show in Manchester.
