Chelsea had proper talk with David’s representatives in the recent transfer window.

Lille Forward Jonathan David was once a Chelsea target but the deal didn’t happen. Finally, David speaks on the failed Chelsea move and his transfer links.

The Ligue 1 star has revealed that he held transfer talks with ‘a couple of teams’ in the summer. He was linked with Chelsea and entered into the final year of the contract at Lille.

The 24-year-old arrived at Lille in 2020 and scored 72 goals in 148 league appearances. The Blues had proper talk with David’s representatives in the recent transfer window. He was also linked with Premier League rivals like Manchester United, Newcastle, Spurs and West Ham.

David was recently part of the Canada’s squad during the international break. He equalled Canada’s all-time goal record during the win over the USA this week.

David spoke to the Athletic after the win over the USA, “It just didn’t happen. There were a couple of offers and we just didn’t finish the deal, that’s it. I spoke to a couple of teams. I spoke with coaches. But ultimately made the decision to stay.”

David will see his contract expire in the summer of 2025 and he may attract many clubs. He speaks out the chances, “Well, right now we’re speaking with the (Lille President Oliver Letang) about a possible extension. We’ll see how that goes.

“I’m open to anything. I think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best league in the world. And for me it’s not the Premier League or bust. I’m open to anything and every league has its challenges.”
