Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior erupted after a controversial handball decision allowed Leeds United to claw back a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, branding the ruling “unacceptable.”

Liam Rosenior Fumes Over “Unacceptable” Handball Call in Chelsea Stalemate

The Blues seemed in control after second-half goals from Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer established a 2-0 lead. However, Lukas Nmecha’s penalty ignited Leeds’ comeback, setting the stage for a dramatic equalizer.

Substitute Noah Okafor tapped home in the 73rd minute after a defensive error, but Chelsea players immediately protested that the ball had struck the hand of Leeds’ Jayden Bogle in the frantic build-up.

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) reviewed the incident but upheld the on-field decision, confirming the goal. Officials stated they deemed no handball offence by Bogle had occurred.

A visibly angry Rosenior did not mince words post-match. “The rule is the rule,” he stated to TNT Sports.

“From my understanding, if there’s any handball in the lead-up to a goal, it should be disallowed.”

When informed that VAR had judged the contact as not deliberate, his frustration boiled over.

“That has just got me angrier because that’s unacceptable if they’ve come with that judgement,” Rosenior said.

“Someone explain the rules to me because they need to help the referees.”

The dropped points mark a significant setback for Chelsea’s European aspirations, while the result gives Leeds a vital point in their fight against relegation.

The controversy, however, dominates the aftermath, with Rosenior’s outburst highlighting the persistent debate over handball interpretations and VAR consistency in the Premier League.
