Lampard sets timeline for Chelsea youngsters

Frank Lampard has given the Chelsea youngsters a deadline to impress him.

“Everybody knows I have a keen eye for the younger players in the academy,” Lampard said.

“We have a batch of them fighting to get into the first team.

“To be absolutely clear, they now have to make the difference. It’s a road that is given to them and now they have to be the ones that play well enough to get into the team.

“I don’t care about age, I care about performance and how people train and play. Now with the squad it is up to those players to show what they can do.”

One player who will not make it into the team is Ethan Ampadu as Lampard has admitted that the player will be sent out on loan.

“Ethan is not here as we’re looking at the possibility of him going on loan for the season,” he told reporters in Japan.

“I tried to sign Ethan on loan at Derby last year, so naturally I’m a big fan.

“But with the minutes he played last year, I have to think of the bigger picture for both Ethan and Chelsea.”
