Erling Haaland was a target of Frank Lampard’s attempts to recruit him during his initial tenure as Chelsea manager

The current season has seen Haaland have a record-breaking debut season at Manchester City, sparking Pep Guardiola’s team’s quest for a treble. The Norwegian has a record-setting 36 goals in the Premier League and 52 goals overall.

This weekend, Chelsea will go to take on Haaland and Manchester City. Before the match, interim manager Lampard praised the league’s top scorer. Surprisingly, Haaland has scored 36 league goals this season, matching Chelsea’s total in the Premier League. At his pre-game press conference, Lampard remarked, “I know the other part about Chelsea is another story, but it’s a terrific stat.

“The first time I was here, I wanted to bring him to Chelsea. Although I was eager, it was not possible. At that moment, his level was quite obvious. He deserves credit because I adore watching guys at his calibre who possess charisma and a desire to excel.

“You must believe that he has the power to influence events at any time. When he performs such actions, you must be at your absolute best.

“I can’t compare him to [Didier] Drogba because they are two different people, but he had that effect over time. Haaland’s effect was more noticeable right away after joining the Premier League. Although not directly comparable, both are excellent attackers.
