Frank Lampard has expressed his happiness for Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

Both players have struggled for Chelsea in their debut season but managed to get 2 goals and an assists between them last night as Chelsea cruised to a 4-0 win against Morecambe.

“I’m just pleased for him because strikers want to score goals, he’s had a lot of near misses in that time. He’d been getting into positions to score goals but they hadn’t been going in for him

“So I was pleased to play him today and for him to get confidence and get a goal. He gets his goal and that’s important.

“With him and Kai coming into the Premier League, some of the greatest Premier League players have needed time to settle to the league. And it’s a nice little step for both of them.”

Lampard put out a strong team against a league two opponent and Frank has hailed his team for their professional attitude.

“It was professional,” he said. “We could have scored more goals maybe but the game was very comfortable, although it wasn’t easy.

“Credit to Morecambe because they were very organised, sat deep and in the early parts of the game they covered all the spaces. It took a while to break them down but I was pleased. It was a game we should win with the squad we have and we did because we did everything right.

“We’ve had some results we don’t like recently so it was an important part of the process to deal with this game in the right way.”
