Derby County have granted Chelsea the permission to have talks with Frank Lampard about the vacant managerial position at the club.
Ever since the end of the Europa League Final, Maurizio Sarri was linked to a move to Juventus while Frank Lampard was strongly linked to replace Sarri at Chelsea.
With Sarri gone, Lampard is the heaviest favorite to replace Sarri at Chelsea. Chelsea legend Didier Drogba said earlier that Chelsea are in talks with Lampard for the manager job. And now, Derby County have confirmed that they have permitted Chelsea to talk with Lampard about the job.
Derby released a statement on their official site that read, “Derby County Football Club can confirm that they have granted permission for Chelsea Football Club to speak to Frank Lampard about the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge. With pre-season fast approaching for both clubs it is hoped this will allow Chelsea to swiftly conclude their discussions. The club will make no further comment until it is appropriate to do so.”
Frank Lampard had a fairly decent managerial spell with Derby County as he almost took them to the Premier League. During his stint, Derby County beat Manchester United while narrowly losing to Chelsea.
Besides, his spell with Derby, Lampard has a very good understanding of Chelsea’s culture, having spent more than a decade at the club.
