Kurt Zouma's Static Display Against Sheffield Puts His Future Under Serious Threat

Chelsea great, Gus Poyet noticed just how poor Kurt Zouma was in his defensive role against Sheffield United.

The Blues got washed aside by a resurgent Sheffield side that we have come to know and love this season.

A hapless performance by the Chelsea backline ended up in them conceding 3 goals at Bramall Lane and putting a serious dent to their third spot finishing chances. Poyet singled out Zouma’s performance and described it to be far too static.

He said, “But today he was static. He was static in everything. Even in the last goal which everyone will remember for [Antonio] Rudiger not kicking the ball away but he [Zouma] doesn’t even try to stop the cross.

“He’s running but he didn’t even stretch himself, he didn’t even have to stop, it was like he was having one of those days where you’re not feeling well and you’re not really there, concentrating enough.

“In football, I say a team can carry one player in a game, two players [more difficult], more than two you can’t carry because the opposition can play. And that’s what happened to Chelsea today, there were too many who were not at the level you need to be to win football games.”

Zouma’s future at Chelsea has very quickly become uncertain with talks of him potentially leaving this summer. If such were the case, Fikayo Tomori will enjoy more minutes and the youngster looks to be much sharper of the two.
