Chelsea legend John Terry has openly questioned the club’s recruitment strategy, emphasizing the need for marquee signings to restore the Blues to their former glory.

John Terry Questions Chelsea’s Strategy, Backs Liverpool for Title

Despite a promising start to the season, Terry believes the current squad lacks the experience to win the Premier League and has instead backed Liverpool to clinch the title, partly in tribute to the late Diogo Jota.

Terry, who remains involved with Chelsea’s academy, expressed his concerns during an interview with talkSPORT.

He acknowledged the club’s policy of signing young talents but stressed that experienced, high-profile players are essential for sustained success.

“I think the only thing we are missing at the moment is those marquee signings,” he said.

“I’d love to see us in the mix for big signings if we want to be back to our very best and at the top winning Premier Leagues year after year”.

While Chelsea have made strides under manager Enzo Maresca and currently sit second in the league, Terry feels the squad’s youthfulness could hinder their title ambitions.

He pointed to Liverpool as the strongest side this season, citing their depth and the emotional motivation following the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.

“They have a big motivation with the very sad loss of Diogo Jota in the back of their minds,” Terry noted.

“I really hope Liverpool do it for that reason alone”.

Terry’s comments have sparked debate among fans and former players. While Joe Cole also raised concerns about Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation, Dennis Wise has supported the club’s strategy of investing in young players on long-term contracts.

As the season unfolds, Terry’s insights highlight the balancing act between nurturing potential and acquiring proven talent.

For now, he believes Liverpool are favorites but remains hopeful Chelsea can stay competitive.
