John Obi Mikel Calls for Joao Felix to Step Up at Chelsea
Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has openly challenged Joao Felix to deliver more for the Blues this season.
Felix, who returned to Stamford Bridge permanently for £45 million from Atletico Madrid, hasn’t yet hit the heights expected of him.
Despite flashes of his undeniable talent during his initial loan spell, Mikel believes the 24-year-old needs to step up and meet the standards Chelsea demand.
Speaking on his podcast, Mikel said, “I expect a lot from Joao Felix. He’s been at the club before, and it didn’t go as planned. He should know what’s expected now, and he needs to start putting in those performances.”
Felix’s return to Chelsea was met with excitement, especially after his promising moments during his first stint.
However, he’s yet to fully establish himself in new manager Enzo Maresca’s system, with his starting opportunities limited so far this season.
Felix has only made appearances off the bench in three of Chelsea’s four Premier League games, leaving many fans wondering when he will cement a starting role.
The Portuguese forward certainly faces competition for a spot in a squad brimming with young talent.
Mikel’s words reflect the sentiment of many supporters – Felix is a gifted player, but talent alone won’t secure a regular place in the lineup. He’ll need to seize every chance and prove his value.
As Chelsea continues to build under Maresca, all eyes will be on Felix to see if he can meet the high expectations and deliver the performances Mikel and the club are hoping for.
