According to Sky Sports Germany, Dortmund star Gittens is expected to be sold in the summer after the Bundesliga team acknowledged they could need to drastically reduce their asking price for the English winger. A sum of approximately €100 million (£83m/$103m) was previously believed to be demanded by BVB; however, they are reportedly thinking of lowering the amount to between €60m (£50m/$63m) and €70m (£58m/$73m).
A player exchange deal may be considered by the Blues to acquire the Chelsea target, whose fee has reportedly been lowered to about £50 million. Chelsea’s on-field performance has been lacking since Christmas, and as a result, they will be searching for more fresh players come summertime. In the Premier League, they did, however, defeat Southampton in their most recent match.
With his accomplishments for Borussia Dortmund, the English youth international has attracted the interest of prominent clubs throughout Europe. During the summer transfer window, Chelsea is one of the potential suitors hoping to sign the young player from Borussia Dortmund. Premier League heavyweights in particular have been keen to sign him.
Chelsea target has fee reduced to around £50m
The report also adds that Dortmund might be forced to let go of Gittens in the summer due to financial constraints if they do not secure European football for next season. Niko Kovac’s side has struggled for form in the 2024-25 campaign and is currently 10th in the Bundesliga after 24 matches.
Dortmund also has Carney Chukwuemeka on loan from Chelsea, so there could be a potential swap deal on the cards here too. However, Mykhailo Mudryk’s long-term future is uncertain amid his suspension for failing a doping test. In addition, Jadon Sancho, Noni Madueke, and Pedro Neto have blown hot and cold this season.
So, Chelsea should invest in a promising attacker, with Gittens emerging as a viable target. The Blues have already submitted a bid worth €80 million to sign the 20-year-old Englishman from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window. However, the Bundesliga giants want around €100 million to part ways with the English whizkid.
So, it will be interesting to see if Chelsea’s proposal worth €50 million does the trick or if a trade deal with Carney Chukwuemeka will secure his services in the coming months.
