A first-half strike from Joao Pedro secured all three points for Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, lifting them back into the Premier League’s top four.
The goal came after excellent pressing and ball-winning work from Caicedo, whose performance earned glowing reviews from Carragher and fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher described the £115 million midfielder as an “absolute monster” in the middle of the park.
“This was one of those goals where it’s not about the scorer—it’s all about Caicedo,” Carragher said.
“He makes challenge after challenge and basically creates the goal himself. It’s absolutely fantastic from him.”
Carragher went on to compare Caicedo to Arsenal’s Declan Rice, calling both among the best midfielders in world football right now.
“I’ve said before that Rice is just ahead of Caicedo, but there’s no shame in that. They’re both absolutely fantastic players,” he added.
The former Liverpool defender also highlighted the stark difference between the two London rivals.
“The contrast between Chelsea and Tottenham on the ball was night and day.
Spurs were awful going forward. This is a huge result for Chelsea, but a lot for Thomas Frank to think about with his side,” he said.
Jamie Redknapp echoed Carragher’s admiration, calling Caicedo’s performance “out of this world.” He added,
“When you watch Chelsea now, there’s excitement and flair. Tottenham, on the other hand, looked slow and short of ideas.”
Redknapp criticised Spurs’ poor home form, noting that they’ve managed only three home wins in the past year.
“That was one of the worst Tottenham performances I’ve seen. They never laid a glove on Chelsea,” he said.
Chelsea now turn their focus to their midweek Champions League trip to Qarabag, while Tottenham prepare to face Copenhagen at home.
