Chelsea's Cole Palmer reflects on his first-team debut for England in Euro qualifiers

In Chelsea’s opening goal against Newcastle United on Sunday, Jamie Carragher thinks Cole Palmer made one of the greatest passes in Premier League history. In the first half at Stamford Bridge, Palmer believed he had put the team ahead when VAR ruled the Chelsea midfielder offside.

The 22-year-old then released Pedro Neto down Chelsea’s left flank with a superb 60-yard ball. The Portuguese winger sprinted to goal and then set up Nicolas Jackson for a low cross. Prior to halftime, Newcastle equalized through Alexander Isak, but Palmer’s game-changing pass astounded Carragher, who was doing halftime analysis for Sky Sports.

Cole Palmer has just done ‘one of the best’ things

Social media was abuzz after Palmer’s pass, and Sky Sports conducted a survey to find out if it was the “pass of the season so far.” Going a step further, though, Carragher said it was among the best passes he had ever witnessed in the Premier League.

The former Liverpool defender told Sky Sports, “That is one of the best passes I’ve seen, not just this season, but in the Premier League.” “Neto places it on a plate for Jackson after two or three Newcastle players are removed.” Two minutes into the second half, Palmer’s Day took an even better turn as he sent a shot past Nick Pope to give Chelsea the lead again after Alexander Isak had equalized.

Palmer has now scored 29 Premier League goals since joining Chelsea, tying Spanish winger Pedro in 95 fewer games.
