It looks like the deal is almost done. Frank Lampard is returning home.
The former Chelsea player and club legend took over at Derby County last season. It was his first season in charge as a manager and he did extremely well. He not only helped Derby reach the finals of the Play-offs but also played an extremely attacking style of football.
However, what was most impressive about Lampard’s reign at Derby was the fact that he changed the squad which was ageing with young blood. His trust in young players is something that Chelsea will badly want to exploit.
Chelsea have been hit with a transfer ban. This means that the 40 odd players who are out on loan will have a real chance of making the cut at the first team squad should they actually manage to impress in the pre-season.
Chelsea also appointed Petr Cech as technical advisor with the specific task of bridging the gap for players with the first team and youth players. Gary Neville believes Lampard’s appointment will do a world of good for the Chelsea youngsters who will be able to showcase their talent at the highest level now.
