Hakim Ziyech hoped for a better Chelsea debut.
Frank Lampard subbed the winger on in the final 20 minutes of the 3-3 draw against Southampton.
The Blues walked out of Saint Mary’s feeling disappointed to have dropped points. Timo Werner commandeered his side to a strong lead with a brace and an assist. Unfortunately, the defence could not hold and Hakim Ziyech struggled to make an impact.
He told the official Chelsea press, “I was very happy about it (his debut), but it wasn’t the debut we all hoped for.
“In the first-half, we began well, two big chances and we went up two zero. But then a little disappointing they scored before halftime. Then obviously 2-2, then 3-2, then they scored in the last minute and that’s not something you can be happy about.”
Ziyech continued, “Of course, it will take time (to adapt). But we don’t have time because the games are coming really quick. So we have to learn quick. But this can’t happen. A last-minute goal, it can’t happen.”
Ziyech outlined just how all Blues fans were feeling watching from home. Chelsea now sit sixth in the table, five points behind leaders, Everton. The Moroccan faces a battle for gametime now with both Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi fit.
