Hakim Ziyech expected to get a call-up in Morocco international squad

Hakim Ziyech has made a decision to return to international football just seven months after retiring.

The 29-year-old winger had a fallout with former Morroco head coach Vahid Halilhodzic and has not played for the national team for over a year.

Ziyech moved to Chelsea from Ajax in the summer of 2020 and has struggled to nail down a consistent spot in the Blues squad.

Last season he made 44 appearances for the Blues, scoring eight times and registering six assists.

Since the sacking of Halilhodzic in August, Walid Regragui has now taken the reigns and has made the decision to recall Ziyech to the national squad.

He said: “When I spoke to him, he accepted immediately and told me that he couldn’t wait to return to the squad.”

He continued: “I know he’s quite a strong character, for example he can raise his hand in protest if I replace him and his a player who does everything to assert himself on the pitch to play.

“We will wait for the Hakim that all Moroccans love, the one who fights on the pitch and who gives everything to his team.”
