Reece James and Ben Chilwell will not play for Chelsea against Liverpool, per manager Graham Potter

Reece James and Ben Chilwell are now training, but they won’t be available for the play at Anfield, according to Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, who was speaking to the media prior to the team’s encounter against Liverpool (h/t Football.London).

On Wednesday, both players were spotted working out with the team, along with recent addition Mykhailo Mudryk. N’Golo Kante, a midfielder, has resumed light raining activity following a protracted injury absence.

Chilwell hasn’t played for his club or nation since tearing his hamstring against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League in early November. James hasn’t played in 2023 after suffering another injury in his comeback match against Bournemouth on December 27.

Before joining the matchday squad, players like James and Chilwell might have ample time to train well with the team and establish some form of rhythm.

In recent weeks, we have missed both of them. In large expanses, imagination and running strength are lacking. James can play that wing-back position and provide a goal threat as well. Let’s hope they are called up again for the Fulham game and get a lot of playing time. The availability of these two players will be crucial if the top-four challenge is to be maintained.
