According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea is preparing for custodian Filip Jørgensen’s exit this summer after the Danish international made a formal desire to leave the team. The 24-year-old paid £20 to join the Blues from Villarreal. A 7 million contract in July 2024, has been dissatisfied with his position as Robert Sanchez’s backup and is adamant about getting regular first-team playing time.

Jorgensen spoke with the Chelsea management in person to convey his desire for a new challenge after spending much of the 2025–26 season on the bench. Under new manager Xabi Alonso, the team is reportedly open to a sale on advantageous terms and does not want to hire a straight successor. Mike Penders, a highly regarded Belgian prospect who has been on loan at Strasbourg, is expected to move up.

Besiktas, Genoa, and Porto all expressed serious interest in him during the January transfer window. West Ham, a relegated Premier League team, also made queries, seeing him as a potential starter who might improve their goalkeeping options and his chances of playing internationally before important competitions. Chelsea prevented any departures at the time in order to maintain squad depth, but now that the season is over, things have drastically changed.

Filip Jorgensen keen on leaving Chelsea this summer

Filip Jorgensen has to leave Chelsea in order to play frequently since he has failed to get regular opportunities there. The 24-year-old deserves more chances after playing 378 minutes in the Premier League first team. Journalist Adrian Kajumba of Sky Sports said that the athlete has now made the decision to quit Chelsea. His growth as a player would suffer if he were to sit on the Chelsea bench. His goal should be to consistently start for a top team by the age of 24.

According to reports, Jorgensen was considering a switch to Germany during the January transfer window. However, Chelsea should also try to get a good goalie. Sanchez has not performed well since joining the team, and it is evident that they do not trust the 24-year-old enough to let him start every week.

This summer, they’ll need a dependable goalie, and Jorgensen’s exit should result in the acquisition of a new top keeper. According to recent sources, Mike Penders may receive a rope from the team for the upcoming campaign. Jorgensen, meantime, has already demonstrated his abilities at a prestigious team like Villarreal, and he intends to rejoin a competitive squad.
