Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is rather happy with the addition of Thiago Silva to the squad.
Silva joined Chelsea on 28 August 2020. The 35 year old defender had an impressive finish with PSG before joining Chelsea. However, many have doubts about Silva performing as well, especially at the age of 35.
But Giroud seems to think otherwise.
“He can bring his experience, his background and his leadership. I think the coach took him for that. We have a lot of young players,” The Blues striker told a press conference with France.
“He still has his qualities, of course, even if like me he is getting a little older, but I’m sure he will bring us a lot.
“He is going to discover a new league and I am sure he will adapt very quickly. We have a lot of ambitions this year with the recruitment and I hope we can join the race for the title.”
Olivier Giroud further is not troubled by Werner’s arrival either.
“In every big club, there’s competition, and it always motivated me to fight for my spot,” he added.
“Now, I’m not naive and I know that the club bought Werner to put him on the pitch. One thing’s for sure: we don’t have the same profile, he likes to go on the sides, he did it with his club and his national team.
“If it was a striker with a similar profile, I would have been more worried, but I think with the different games and the different teams we’ll play, the coach will choose different tactical systems and I really hope I’ll play, following what I did last year.”
If anything, Giroud is embracing the new signings.
