Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso faces mounting pressure to offload teenage sensation Estevao Willian after Barcelona reportedly expressed interest in the Brazilian winger.

Xabi Alonso Urged to Sell Chelsea Star Estevao Willian Amid Barcelona Interest

The Blues signed Estevao from Palmeiras in 2025, beating multiple clubs to secure his signature.

The 19-year-old showcased his enormous potential last season, scoring eight goals in 36 appearances while former managers Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior carefully managed his development.

His performances quickly earned him recognition as one of football’s brightest young talents, and he positioned himself for Brazil’s World Cup squad before suffering an untimely injury.

However, Alonso’s arrival at Stamford Bridge has diminished Estevao’s opportunities.

The teenager has yet to start a Premier League match this season, fueling speculation about his frustration in west London.

Spanish reports indicate Barcelona have admired Estevao since his emergence in Brazil and would welcome a deal.

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf believes selling Estevao might benefit everyone involved.

“I think Estevao might have to leave Chelsea and it’s a shame because he is a pure talent,” Leboeuf told My Gamble.

“But Xabi Alonso proved at Leverkusen that his system works by going undefeated and winning the Bundesliga.

Why change it? He joined Chelsea when Estevao was already there, but he didn’t specifically choose him.

Estevao might be sacrificed. It might be time to sell him.”

Leboeuf emphasized that keeping an unused talent serves nobody.

“If you’re not going to use him, sell him, because he deserves to play and could be well-utilized by other teams. He has great talent.

If Xabi Alonso doesn’t need him, why keep him instead of letting him move elsewhere?”

Estevao came on as a late substitute in Chelsea’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brentford before the international break.

He started for Brazil against Australia on Friday and hopes for more minutes when Carlo Ancelotti’s side faces the same opponent this week.

Chelsea currently sit 10th in the Premier League after five games, despite winning their opening three fixtures.

The Blues return to action against struggling Bournemouth following the international break.
