Gus Poyet thinks Frank Lampard would have never have got away with treating Callum Hudson-Odoi the way Thomas Tuchel has.
Speaking on Monday Night Football, the 53-year-old said, “I think if this was done by Frank Lampard today, he would be killed in the press by every single reporter.
“But because he’s (Tuchel) new, and because he’s just arrived and he’s doing well, it’s just normal. When you go to a new club, in the first few weeks everything is alright, even if you make a mistake.
“If you make the same mistake one year later and you’re in the same position you get the sack, that’s natural.”
Hudson-Odoi was taken off just thirty minutes after coming on as a substitute against Southampton. Tuchel later criticised the winger’s attitude, expecting more out of him as an impact sub.
Chelsea went on to draw the game 1-1 at Saint Mary’s Stadium. Hudson-Odoi did find his place back in the starting line up against Atletico Madrid. He featured on the right flank and helped the Blues to a 1-0 first leg win.
Tuchel clearly believes in him more than Lampard did. He continues to get opportunities over other players who were starters before.
