Frank Lampard Was Urged To Sign John Stones

Harry Redknapp admits to coercing Frank Lampard into signing John Stones.

Chelsea spent over £200m on player transfers last summer with majority of it spent to reinforce the attack.

However, Lampard did add Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell as players like Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen fell out of favour. Chelsea also brought in Malang Sarr from OGC Nice on a free only to loan him out again.

“John Stones…what a comeback he’s made in his career,” Redknapp said. “I texted Frank at the start of the year to be honest – but he’d already made a signing at Chelsea – saying ‘what about John Stones?’

“I think he’s a real talent, someone just had to get hold of him and get him playing and believing in himself. He’s come back now and he’s the best centre-half around, he’s in fantastic form.”

John Stones has been spectacular for City in recent months, helping them to 17 cleansheets out of their last 24 games. Stones has featured heavily alongside new arrival, Ruben Dias to put City on top.

Many had written him off after years of underwhelming performances but the £50m signing from Everton is finally starting to come good. Would he have been a good fit at Chelsea? Probably not but he is another English talent that fans can get excited about.
