According to the latest reports, Frank Lampard wantst Nathan Ake back at Chelsea.
It was another defensive catastrophe by the Blues that caused a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Everton last weekend.
Chelsea need to stiffen up their defensive ranks and Lampard believes Ake could be the man to do so. The Blues academy graduate has racked up quite a resume after leaving Stamford Bridge.
He signed for AFC Bournemouth in July 2017 and has appeared in over 100 games for the side, scoring 10 goals and assisting another 5. He has turned into a key figure in Eddie Howe’s Cherries lineup, showcasing his quality every gameweek.
Chelsea do have a right to first refusal on Ake and also an option to buy him back for £40m. Lampard is expected to be handed a transfer kitty of £150m once the ban gets lifted. He is eager to make a few additions, especially in his defensive ranks.
Chelsea have clearly suffered without a senior figure like Antonio Rudiger in defence. The German’s absence through injury is starting to draw out a huge dent in the Blues shield. There is no telling when he might return after suffering a setback last month.
Lampard wants to bring Ake back to the Bridge but not before assessing Rudiger’s return period. The problem is Ake, himself suffered a hamstring injury against Liverpool last week. If it turns out to be serious, the Blues boss might be forced to look elsewhere.
