Frank Lampard wants to bring in Shay Given at Chelsea to address Kepa Arrizibalaga’s inconsistent form.
The Spanish goalkeeper has struggled to really struggled to stamp his authority post his £72m move from Athletic Bilbao.
Kepa’s performances fell under serious criticisms after the 4-4 thriller at Stamford Bridge a couple of weeks back. The Blues conceded 3 goals in the first half through a few mistakes from their defensive custodian but they did rally back to collect a point against Ajax.
Lampard took charge of Chelsea last June and coaches, Jody Morris and Chris Jones followed him to West London. Given had expressed an interest to join Lampard’s team but Henrique Hillario was promoted instead.
It was a move which was pressed by the number of changes the club were going through. Now, Lampard wants Given to join his backroom staff and work closely with Kepa. The 25-year-old is yet to prove his guille in the Premier League even after winning the number one spot over David De Gea in the Spain national team.
One of Kepa’s biggest criticisms is his ability against set pieces. Only Arsenal and Burnley have conceded more goals from dead ball situations out of the top half Premier League sides.
