Former Chelsea player Don Hutchinson has advised Frank Lampard to drop Willian and play Christian Pulisic more often. The 21-year-old attacker joined Chelsea this summer, having signed for the Blues in a £58m deal in January.
However, touted to be Eden Hazard’s replacement at the Stamford Bridge, Pulisic has found game time hard to come by under Lampard. The American international didn’t feature in the last two league games and was also absent in Chelsea’s Champions League fixture against Valencia.
“I’ve commentated on Christian Pulisic a number of times at Dortmund and I was at the Super Cup the other month,” Hutchison said to preface his comments.
“If you take away Kante, Pulisic was probably the best player on the pitch. In my opinion, he has to play. He’s a sensational player going forward.”
“Maybe Frank thinks he’s not strong enough for the Premier League.”
“But in my opinion, if I was Frank, I would play him.”
“Willian’s not pulling up any trees at the moment. I think Christian Pulsiic is a better player.”
“I’m not sitting here saying he’s as good as Hazard, but he’s got a low centre of gravity, he can take players on, I think he’s a game-changer.”
It remains to be seen if Lampard heeds to the advice and does as requested.
